There's a second name on our Trusted Partners page, and the timing is not an accident.


UK Telehealthcare has just changed hands. For most organisations, a change of ownership is the moment outsiders watch closely, and partners quietly hold their breath. We're doing the opposite, and not just because the timing works. This one has me genuinely excited, given the scale of what it could mean if it goes the way I think it can.


UK Telehealthcare touches almost every corner of this sector, suppliers, providers, the people commissioning the services that reach someone's home. Get collaboration right at that scale and the difference doesn't stop at one organisation's front door, it reaches a lot further than that. That's the part I can't quite stop thinking about, and it's exactly why we think this is the right moment to put our name next to theirs.

 

A long stewardship, and a new chapter

 

For years, UK Telehealthcare has been the independent, vendor-neutral home for the telecare, telehealth and technology enabled care sector. Gerry and Julia Allmark built it into a genuine meeting point between the companies making the alarms and sensors, and the local authorities, housing associations and care providers who use them. That's no small achievement in a sector where independence is rare and easily lost.


That stewardship deserves to be said plainly. The trust UK Telehealthcare holds across the sector didn't appear by accident, it was earned, year after year, by people who built every decision around what genuinely served their membership.


This year, ownership passed to Andor Holding Group, led by Ross Barrie. Gerry remains closely involved, which tells you something about how this transition has been handled. The links that took years to build are being carried forward, not discarded.

 

Where it's heading

 

Ross has plans for UK Telehealthcare, and the detail of those is his to share in his own time, not ours. What we can speak to is the shift underneath the plans, because it's the part that matters most to us. The stated direction points to a wider reach, touching parts of the care sector that haven't always sat in the same room, with fresh thinking on engagement and on how people work together. At its core, that means suppliers, providers and the people who keep the sector running day to day, properly talking to each other, rather than each guarding their own patch and hoping the others don't notice.


That sounds simple until you've spent any time in this industry, where good ideas rarely travel beyond the organisation that had them. A sector that collaborates properly, openly, without an agenda attached, makes life easier for everyone standing inside it and better for everyone it's meant to serve. That's a harder thing to build than a new feature, and a far more valuable one.


It's also the exact instinct we're building Creating Better around. We've always said the outcome should be about the people and the assets in front of us, never about what one particular company happens to have on the shelf that week. Finding the best options for the situation matters more than finding the best pitch. We don't take sides between vendors, and we don't believe good outcomes come from one organisation hoarding influence over a sector that's meant to work on everyone's behalf. Seeing UK Telehealthcare's new ownership lean the same way, deliberately, is exactly why this partnership makes sense to us.

 

15 years in the making

 

I've known Ross for over 15 years, and not through this sector at all. We first worked together on a community-based project a long way from telecare, brought together by a shared interest in the fortunes of Dundee Football Club. That's a different kind of history to build a partnership on, and a sturdier one. A shared misery, if you like. It's not a relationship that started at a trade show or over a sales pitch, it started because we both cared about the same thing for reasons that had nothing to do with business.


That history is the reason this partnership doesn't feel new, even though it's only just been announced. We're already aligned on this, pushing the independent development of this sector forward, for everyone in it.
