What our colleagues say...

In early 2019 I acquired McGill, a Scottish construction company that, after 38 years in business, had entered administration. Harry supported our board of directors and the wider team in re-establishing the business. Harry’s experience and expert opinion were invaluable and instrumental in the rapid growth of the company. I have no hesitation in recommending Harry to any business looking for a strong, reliable and honest leader who will integrate with the existing team and deliver results.

Back in 2010 when I first met Harry MacLean, he was the CEO of Dundee Football club. The owner of the football club had withdrawn financial support and Harry was trying to manage the club in extremely difficult circumstances. The very existence of the club was at stake at that time.
In my opinion Harry did a tremendous job of managing a number of complex financial, operational, personnel and PR issues all under the gaze of the public eye and with the added emotional pressure from Dundee fans. In addition, Harry gathered financial support from fans and investors which directly enabled the club to successfully emerge from Receivership in 2011 and continue to trade up to the present time.

As our family business transitioned from the fifth into the sixth-generation management, smooth succession and transition was paramount. This coupled with the desire to expand and grow the business meant that we required some senior level counsel and support to help us navigate this process. We were impressed with Harry’s candid approach; having engaged his services for several months now we are very pleased with the scope of support and implementation provided by Harry and the wider team.
Alexander SturrockManaging Director, Sturrocks Joinery
As a senior in the Hendrik Veder Group, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Harry for the past five years. The oil industry has been in turmoil since 2014, and Harry demonstrated his hard work and business dedication working with us. Our Norwegian entity needed significant restructuring to ensure stability and growth; Harry took the lead, conducting a turnaround leading to a successful repositioning of our Norwegian unit. I give him my highest recommendations!

Harry has been a loyal and active supporter of ABF The Soldiers' Charity, regularly participating in gruelling challenges to fundraise on our behalf, encouraging and inspiring many others to do the same. He has taken on more than a dozen major challenge events so far, including four 54-mile Cateran Yomps in the Scottish Cairngorms, two London Marathons and a 100km Front Line Walk across the World War 1 Battlefields of France.
In recent years, Harry has been a sponsor of the Cateran Yomp and a source of useful and pertinent advice to me and our event planning team. ABF The Soldiers' Charity helps soldiers, veterans and their families through life across the globe and could not do so without the incredible and generous support of the likes of Harry 'Mac'. Thank you very much!

Harry has a very practical approach to business improvement, keeping focus on a small number of projects which contribute significantly in delivering the envisioned strategy/improvement. Capability to swiftly understand the business and market dynamics and identify where the key probems are and hint at potential solutions immediately. Involving key people in the organisation, selected on integrity and business acumen, less so on status or verbal power. Keeping metrics understandable and getting the broader organisation on the same page through repetitively sharing the, simple but effective, story (read: strategy). Feels comfortable in sticky situations and dares to take and execute difficult decisions on the spot. Had a good time working with Harry and would recommend him to any business struggling with business improvement need (from operations to commercial, from supply chain to human capital), growth pains or full-on restructuring need.

Harry and I met in around 2010, when he was Supply Chain Director of Global Integrated Services, a leading UK supplier of lifting equipment to the offshore industry. I was Managing Director of a company manufacturing textile lifting slings and we commenced our business relationship, which later turned into friendship. I remember well when I first came to Dundee and he invited me to watch a football game and told me the story about two teams there in the same city, having their stadiums located less than 100 yards one from each other. I was very surprised to learn that Harry used to be the CEO of one these football clubs, unbelievable experience, very impressive! Last year our friendship went up to the next level - we became business partners and now we have a very close side-to-side co-operation on all business matters where Harry is a great help to develop not just one company, but our group of companies. What a sweating job to do! I can see he has a really big experience how to both achieve growth and maximise resource use.
